1969 Gurney #121 Mercury Cyclone

Dan Gurney and the Woods Brothers could have been rightly considered a stock car “supergroup” back in the day. And they both had their own successes but their 1969 Riverside 500 effort would not turn out to be one of them. Still, there’s something magical about the Mercury Cyclone Dan raced that year. Maybe it’s the red livery or the 427 lurking under the hood…all I know that every time I draw one of these early race cars it becomes a deep dive into the technology of the day and exercises my research skills in the extreme.
