Monterey 2019 Wrap-Up
Thanks to everyone who stopped by and spent time with me at Automobilia 2019. I sincerely appreciate your interest in my art and I hope to be illustrating one of your favorite rides in the near future. A special thanks to Doug Buchanan from Garage Graphics who was nice enough to put up with me for another year. I’ve been back from Monterey and a fabulous 2019 event for a couple of months now and…
Jaguar MKII Project
As part of the 50th anniversary of the Jaguar MKII, I was invited by Peter Crespin at the Jaguar Journal to provide a three-part series showing the progress of my anniversary illustration from start to finish. The final issue (available around holiday time) will include a center spread of the finished work which subscribers are welcome to remove and frame. Once complete, a limited edition version (100 prints) will be available as either an archival…
Porsche—Excellence Was Expected
If you wondered where I disappeared to for most April, May and half of June, I had the privilege of creating 23 new illustrations for Karl Ludvigsen’s most recent update to his seminal book, Porsche: Excellence was Expected offered by Bentley Publishers. While the work was, at times, very intense, it was also a tremendous opportunity for me to gain more insight, first hand, on the development of both Porsche production and racing models from the 1948…
Penske Chaparral Re-issue
The Story Behind the Print The Gordan Johncock Penske Chaparral 2K was the very first piece I actually earned money for as an illustrator. The year was 1996 I was approached by a friend and business associate, acquainted with both Penske and Johncock who commissioned an illustration of the Chaparral 2K. It was the very first illustration I was ever actually paid for and what I didn’t know about licensing, commissions, and the whole business…

If you haven’t yet read the story of how this most improbable event came to be please, continue on. I still find it pretty damn amazing. My phone rang and, when I picked…

Porsche Type 547 “Furhman” Engine
Designed by Ernst Furhman for the 550 model as well as a performance option for the 356 models, Furhman’s complex design began with the basic flat four and then added dual overhead cams driven by beveled gears, coupled with dual distributors and two spark plugs per cylinder. The original motor produced a reliable 110 horsepower turning at 7,800 RPMS with later models cranking out up to 135 horsepower at a rather sedate 7,200 RPMs. The…

New Artists Exhibition
While I’m a reasonably familiar presence around vintage car shows and have work hanging in several museums, I’ve never actually never been juried into a fine art exhibit—until now. Earlier this month I was asked by the Chaffee Art Center to submit work for consideration to be included in an exhibit featuring new artists. Like several other experiences involving my work—having Gerry Coker review my Austin-Healey art or sending the newly completed Gurney eagle images…
